Character Name: David Jun Goldstein Age/Birthday: 16/May 10 House/Year: Hufflepuff/6th Bloodline: Half-Blood Physical Description: Standing at approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall, David has a gangly appearance. He's rather skinny and it seems that any food he eats doesn't stick to him. It could be because he resembles a rubber band since he is at that age, but it seems he holds himself like someone who is not used to their growing body. David is of Chinese and Jewish descent. His eyes are dark brown and Asian looking although the non-Asian influence is there. His skin has a slightly tanned tone to it. He is full-lipped, narrow faced, with a slightly hook nose. His hair is straight and silky and is almost shoulder length although it usually never lies flat on his head and is prone to sticking up on end no matter how much he combs it. It is a dark brown with red highlights. Often, he will dye it red though. David's style of dress is clean cut, like he actually takes time to get ready for the day, almost compulsively so. Even when he plays Quidditch, he starts the game or practice looking his best even though within a few moments, he'll be dirty again. He pays special attention to his hair, especially since it likes to stick up. He compensates for that by gelling it. It is clear when someone first meets David is he's not that confident. It seems the only place where he feels so is when he's on his broom in the air. Otherwise, he seems to stumble over his words and make stupid jokes. He's definitely socially awkward. He is also the person, when in class, usually scrambles through his bookbag like he forgot something. He can never seem to memorize names or terms. And it always seems like he walks down the hall like he had some sort of internal monologue going on in his head which opens himself up to walking into things and people and through ghosts. He attempts to feign confidence but it never really works out. It seems like David is in a constant state of sheepishness, whether it was because he said the wrong thing, tripped over himself, or forgetting someone's name, he often smiles an awkward smile. He hates feeling embarrassed and if he's having a bad day, he may lash out with a simple, “Stop it you guys!” Of course that just makes him look more like a fool. It is because of what was described above that David is a bully magnet. It seems he is extremely unlucky. If someone kicked a ball into a crowd that he happened to be in? He'd end up getting hit in the face, breaking his nose. David's strongest virtue is his perseverance. He is the sort that can take a punch and keep on moving even though he does not look like it. He has a heart that pushes him through all his times being bullied, all his bad luck, and everything else. He usually takes it in a manner as if he says, 'Oh no, not again.' Sometimes he does fight back, if he reached his limit but that usually complicates matters. His greatest vice and his greatest flaw is his resentment. He feels his big brother is recognized more than him. After all, he's the only one in his family that wasn't a Ravenclaw. Worse enough, Hufflepuff was considered the left over house. Additionally, he finds school to be very difficult and hates how it seems so easy for some people. Or how it is so easy for some people to try to pick up girls while he struggles in the position of the “friend.” He usually reacts to these feelings of resentment by being passive aggressive. He attempts to laugh it off while making comments about how much it irritated him that he had to work hard to get what he wanted. It simmered below the surface. Personal History: He was born on May 10th in the morning in London, Britain. David Goldstein was the second child of Su Li and Anthony Goldstein after their first child Isaac was born a year earlier. Both parents met at Hogwarts in the House of Ravenclaw but hooked up towards the end of their Hogwarts career. Anthony, since he was a member of the DA, was a researcher into ways to deter the dark arts. Su was also a researcher but she worked with experimental charms. Both of them were bookish and clever and it seemed that Isaac took after them. David on the other hand seemed to not be like the rest of his family. He seemed to like sports most of all. Growing up, David felt he was constantly in the shadow of his big brother who seemed to follow in the Ravenclaw spirit of being smart and clever. David was a bit slow, always the last to get jokes or to understand instructions. He was more an active child, skilled at sports even though he often took falls. He wasn't the most graceful of people but he could take a punch or two. This was the one area that David was better at than his brother. However, when he was five years old, while he was playing with Isaac, he began to have an asthma attack. After being rushed to St. Mungo's, David received his diagnosis and the recipe for the potion he would have to take every day and before physical activities since. When David and Isaac entered elementary school, David realized how much he wasn't like his family. He had problems memorizing and just understanding his lessons. He was a much slower learner than his brother who picked up on the lessons right away. That was when he began to resent Isaac. He tried to make up for the fact by getting more into quidditch and to practicing his flying, even if it was just a practice broom. He felt his parents didn't understand him because he wasn't a bookish person but more a physical person. They loved him no doubt but sometimes perception is believing and what David believed was his parents liked Isaac more than him. He responded by bickering with his brother and being just generally passive aggressive. While sometimes he smiled when he got these feelings of jealousy, it sometimes exploded into immature bursts of magic. He did have one year to which he had time to his parents without Isaac there. They talked about their eldest often, though. David still felt left out. It was then he decided he would play Quidditch professionally when he grew up no matter what. He grew excited when he got his letter on his eleventh birthday. Everyone did. He did anticipate it because he grew to hate school mainly because it seemed so easy for everyone. For him, he had to work extra hard just to pass. What he looked forward to was Quidditch. When he went with his family to Diagon Alley, he got himself a cat which he named Bludger and his wand which was 7 inches, Oak, with a unicorn hair. Soon, he was ready to begin his school adventure. When David finally entered Hogwarts, to much to his dismay he was sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Ravenclaw. David really wanted to be in Ravenclaw with the rest of his family but he was not very clever. The sorting hat tried to console him in this fact that his greatest strength was his perseverance which was a Hufflepuff trait. There was honor in his virtue. Finally, David gave in and the sorting hat placed him in Hufflepuff. His first year at school was marked by looking up to his house's Quidditch players (who saw him a bit like a Colin Creevey), being bullied by Slytherins since he was an easy target, and arguing with his brother when he found the time. He barely passed his classes even with tutors. The only classes he did well in was Flying and Herbology. While he felt a kinship with the fellows in his house, he didn't form any close relationships. He attempted to fit in but he just felt too awkward and it showed. His second year went like any other. He still was continued to be bullied by certain individuals. He began to make friends but with girls who found him to be non-threatening. And he too felt safer around them as well. He had yet to reach the hormone surge which would cause him to feel different around them. He tried out for Quidditch and made the team as an alternate much to his dismay. One of the chasers took David under his wing and showed him the ropes to take his place when he would graduate. He still continued to struggle in school. In his third year, David finally made it to the chaser position on first string. Unfortunately, he had to keep up good grades to remain on the team. His brother, who thought he was being selfless, decided to tutor him so he could keep his grades up. The two argued but the situation proved to be beneficial. On his second game, however, David, forever forgetful, forgot to take his potion. He had an asthma attack in the middle of the game in which he quickly got replaced by the alternate for the rest of the time. He always kept his affliction a secret and after this, people knew about it. His team always pestered him about it which sort of got on his nerves. Also in his third year, David had to take up two new electives. He chose Care of Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies, both subjects he actually took to quite easily and got pretty good grades in. It was through Muggle Studies he learned of other Muggle sports and was eager to try them. He took a liking to basketball in particular although soccer was a close second. David's fourth year went off without a hitch. He got better and better at Quidditch and he even attempted on some Saturdays to get some people to play muggle sports with him. He still had run ins with bullies but not as much anymore. With his brother tutoring him, he didn't fail anything. He continued to excel at Muggle Studies and Care of Magical Creatures. It was also in this year he developed his first crush. It was on a girl in his little circle of friends in which he was the only boy. He knew she thought of him as only a friend and he grew lovesick over it. Nothing ever came of the crush. He was too shy. Fifth year was a busy year for David. It was the year of OWLs and a lot of studying. Isaac helped him with it as did a lot of people in his house who knew how much trouble he had with school. He passed, excelling in Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Muggle Studies. The rest, he did enough to pass even though he put a huge amount of effort into the tests. He continued to play Quidditch. His best classes are Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies, and Defense Against the Dark Arts His worst classes are Potions and Charms. Tournament Views: David wishes he could have participated but he is too young. He still remembers the stories people told about Cedric Diggory and uses that as a flag of house pride. He's sad there is no Quidditch this year but he finds ways to play it with others who are interested. He is supportive of the current champion, though. Sample RPs: Potions class. David Goldstein hated potions class with a passion. Just the thought of going and he could already feel the bile rising into his throat like the bad golash he had in the Great Hall the other night. He didn't know why he even tried that stuff. It didn't look appetizing what made him think it could be appetizing? He had his backpack slung over his shoulder as he rushed into the dungeons with a half curled sneer behind a forced smile. He was late. This was because he took a digger down the stairs. Being on time had never been his strong point. His head was so often in the clouds he forgot to look at the huge watch his brother gave him as a Hanukkah present. It was big for a reason. Quickly, he took his usual seat to his lab partner just as the teacher walked in and asked for them to take out his homework. A look of distress clouded over David's face. Did he remember to pack it? He wasn't sure if he did. He remembered putting his charms notes into his bag but did he put his potions...? Quickly, he grabbed his bag and scrambled through it frantically. Okay, there is his charms notes. He still had a bag of food for a gryffin for some odd reason in his bag as well as a bottle of water and other random items. Why did he have a queen chess piece in there? He hardly ever played chess... His final resort was to dump out his bag, which he did on his desk. Out tumbled his potions scroll. He heaved a sigh of relief as he slipped everything back into his bag. He worked well into the morning on that essay. After his brief panic attack, he sat back with a sheepish smile on his face. What? He wasn't the one who made a huge deal because he couldn't find his homework. Nope, not him! | |||||||||
